The government is considering building cable car systems at popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka, including Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak), to improve tourism facilities.

This idea was discussed on the 28th at a Tourism Task Force meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat. The meeting was led by Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.

For many years, different groups have requested a cable car project near Sri Pada, and this was reviewed again during the meeting. Other locations like Kikiliyamana and Ella are also being considered for similar projects.

Before moving forward, officials said they need to:

- Carry out feasibility studies
- Get initial approvals
- Review technical and environmental reports

In another discussion, the government also talked about improving tourism overall. One major plan is to introduce visa-free travel for citizens from 40 countries starting May 25, which is expected to bring more tourists to Sri Lanka.

The meeting also looked at improving facilities in 19 national parks, including Yala National Park. A program has already started where a private company is maintaining existing toilet facilities, and there are plans to build new ones.

In addition, officials discussed creating a special tourism zone along the coastal area from Colpetty. This project aims to improve safety and attractions for visitors, with a goal of attracting around 2,000 to 3,000 tourists.
