Sri Lanka has been ranked among the least happy countries in the world again. In the World Happiness Report 2026, the country dropped to 134th place, going down one spot from last year.
With an average life satisfaction score of 4.013 out of 10, Sri Lanka is only ahead of a few countries like Ethiopia, Tanzania, Lebanon, Yemen, and Afghanistan. Over the past few years, the ranking has been falling — from 128th in 2024, 133rd in 2025, and now 134th in 2026.
The report is based on surveys where people rate their own lives from 0 to 10. It uses data collected over three years (2023–2025) to give a more accurate picture of how people feel about their lives.
Even though many countries have improved their happiness levels over time, Sri Lanka is still facing challenges.
Meanwhile, Finland continues to be the happiest country in the world for the 9th year in a row, with a high score of 7.764.
