The United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are exploring stronger cooperation in investment, tourism and hospitality, as both countries look to expand economic and travel connections.

The discussions took place in Dubai between UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath. Tourism was highlighted as an important area for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The UAE recorded 43,333 Sri Lankan visitors during the first five months of 2026, following 153,430 arrivals from Sri Lanka in 2025. The two countries also have strong air connectivity, with 107 weekly direct flights, supporting easier movement for tourists and business travelers.

The discussions also included opportunities to share expertise in hospitality and hotel management, which could support knowledge transfer and further development of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.

Stronger UAE–Sri Lanka tourism ties could create new opportunities for travel businesses, hotels, investors and destination operators while making Sri Lanka more accessible to travelers from the Gulf and beyond.
