Sri Lanka Records Nearly 1.5 Million Tourist Arrivals in 2026

Sri Lanka recorded nearly 1.5 million tourist arrivals by 23 August 2026, with India, the UK and China remaining the country's leading source markets.

Sri Lanka recorded 1,498,749 international tourist arrivals between January 1 and August 23, 2026, bringing the country close to the 1.5 million mark, according to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

During the first 23 days of August alone, Sri Lanka welcomed 155,331 tourists. India remained the largest source market for the month, contributing 36,590 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 16,688 and China with 10,294.

India has also maintained its position as Sri Lanka's leading tourism market for the year, with 374,820 arrivals recorded up to August 23. The UK followed with 147,089 visitors, while China contributed 98,801.

The latest figures highlight continued international demand for Sri Lanka as a travel destination. With the upcoming peak travel season ahead, the strong performance of key source markets could provide further opportunities for hotels, tour operators, transport providers and other tourism businesses across the country.
