Get Your Digital Presence Ready Before the Tourists Arrive
August 14, 2026
Prepare your Sri Lankan tourism business before the next season with a stronger website, Google Business Profile, social media, reviews, SEO, and online booking presence.
The next tourism season may seem far away, but for tourism businesses, waiting until tourists arrive can mean missing some of the most valuable opportunities.
Travelers usually begin researching their destinations weeks or even months before their actual trip. They search for hotels, villas, tours, experiences, restaurants, transport providers, and things to do long before they arrive in Sri Lanka. This means your business needs to be visible and ready before the traveler is ready to book.
Your digital presence is often the first impression a potential customer has of your business. It could be your Google Business Profile, website, Instagram page, Tripadvisor listing, or even a recommendation from an AI travel assistant. If these channels are outdated, incomplete, or inactive, travelers may simply move on to another business.
Start by looking at your Google Business Profile. Make sure your business information, location, contact details, website, photos, services, and operating hours are accurate. Fresh photos and regular updates can make your profile look active and trustworthy, while genuine customer reviews can give potential visitors the confidence to make an inquiry.
Your website should receive the same attention. A traveler should be able to understand what you offer, where you are located, what makes your business different, and how to contact or book you without unnecessary effort. A slow website, outdated information, missing prices, or a complicated booking process can turn interested visitors into lost customers.
Social media is another important part of seasonal preparation. Instead of only posting when the season starts, use the months before the season to build interest. Show your accommodation, experiences, destinations, food, activities, local attractions, and previous guest experiences. Give potential travelers a reason to imagine themselves experiencing Sri Lanka with your business.
Reviews should also be part of your preparation strategy. Travelers increasingly compare businesses based on ratings and recent customer experiences before making booking decisions. Building a strong collection of genuine reviews before the busy season can make your business significantly more trustworthy when international visitors start searching.
Your booking and inquiry process also needs to be tested before demand increases. If someone discovers your business through Google or social media, can they immediately contact you? Is your WhatsApp number easy to find? Are your packages clearly explained? Can travelers understand your availability and pricing? Most importantly, can they make a booking without unnecessary back and forth?
Search visibility is another area businesses should work on early. SEO takes time, and building visibility for searches such as hotels in Sri Lanka, villas in Ella, tours in Trincomalee, safari tours in Yala, or experiences in Arugam Bay cannot be achieved overnight. Preparing your website content, Google Business Profile, destination pages, and other digital assets before the season gives your business more time to become visible.
The same principle applies to emerging travel discovery channels. Travelers are increasingly using AI tools alongside Google, social media, and traditional booking platforms when researching destinations. Businesses with clear information, strong online authority, positive reviews, and consistent digital profiles have a better opportunity to be discovered across this changing travel landscape.
The most important thing is not to wait for the season to begin.
By the time tourists start arriving, your competitors may already have built their visibility, collected reviews, launched campaigns, and secured early bookings.
The tourism season does not start when the tourists arrive.
For a successful tourism business, it starts when you prepare to be discovered.
